Spring Clean Up Track Meet

Jim Smith from CMC dropped us a note about the CMC/Team Bow Cycle Spring Clean-up this weekend. The forecast is calling for rain both days but Jim is holding out for sun on the weekend.

2nd Annual CMC/Team Bow Cycle Spring Clean-up
May 26-27, 2007
Glenmore Velodrome, Calgary

1/2, 3, 4, 5, Women A, Women B (track categories), Tandems, Paralympians
(*Categories may be combined.)

RACE DAY Registration: $60 payable to “Cyclemeisters Calgary” on race day
PARALYMPIC Athletes: $20 payable to “Cyclemeisters Calgary” on race day

The weather forecast for the weekend is discouraging, to say the least. Since we all need some clarity, here is what I plan to do:

If it’s raining in Calgary at 7:30 AM, we will postpone the start to 1:00 PM. Riders should arrive at the track in time to register and race starting at 1. We’ll also cancel the lunch on Saturday if we postpone the start.

If we postpone the start to the afternoon, we will also change the format. We’ll go to a modified UCI Omnium since this will enable us to get in most events. It also means shorter pursuits, which frees up some time. The UCI Omnium is a 200 m sprint, 5 km scratch race, 2 or 3 km pursuit, 15 km points race and kilo or 500. We’ll do those events but cut the scratch and points race distances for all groups except Men 1-3. At this stage I envisage three groups: Men 1-3; Men 4-5 plus Women A; Women B and U17. Order of the events will be as follows:

Saturday: 200, scratch, pursuits

Sunday: Sprint rounds (not part of the UCI Omnium but probably of interest to our power riders), points race, kilo/500. If there is time, we’ll have a Keirin or Madison, depending on rider interest.

If it’s still raining at 1:00 Saturday, we’ll cancel that day and run just a Sunday program.

Let’s all pray for sun so we don’t have to make the changes.
