Interbike 2008 – Outdoor Demo Day 1

This report is brought to you by

The 2008 Outdoor Demo kicked off today in Bootleg Canyon, just outside of Boulder City, NV. According to Interbike, the demo is held for two-days under sunny blue-skies and this festive outdoor event provides buyers and the media opportunities to see and test the latest innovations firsthand. Two days of great trails, open roads, and thousands of bikes and products.

Here are some highlights from day one:

New for 2009 is Shimano Dura Ace – electric style. We got to sample the shifting system that will revolutionize the way we change gears on a road bike! A slight push of the smartly located “buttons” sends the chain seamlessly from one cog to another.

The shift buttons are located in the same spot as regular, cable actuated Dura Ace, however, it only takes a small “push” to make the system shift.

This new shifting is remarkable. The small battery pack mounts near the bottom of the down tube and powers hundreds of hours of shifting. The strongest aspect of this new system is the front shifting. It works effortlessly – no more pushing that chain into the big ring anymore. Price for the new shifting system (derailleurs, shifters, & battery) will run you roughly the same $$ as the complete cable actuated grouppo.

Trek had a fleet of it’s new 2009 Top Fuel on demo for everyone to try, complete with the new FSA MTB specific 2×9 crankset (44Tx29T).

Super exciting for 2009 is the debut of the Chris King Bottom Bracket. This puppy comes with the same high level of craftmanship and durability as Chris King hubs and headsets. This fully serviceable BB will work with Shimano, FSA, and Race Face cranks.

Service is super slick with the BB’s dedicated tools. Simply remove the bearing spindle sleeve, push in the bearing grease tool and pump in the new and push out the old (grease that is).

The Chris King BB will be available in both road and MTB.
