News From the Alberta DownHill Race Association

Provided by ADHRA

2009 is shaping up to be another busy season in the sport of downhill racing.  With the ADHRA hosting two events this summer, the highlight is expected to be the ADHRA Western Cup, to be held at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (KHMR) on the weekend of July 11-12, 2009.  This event will be run on a brand new DH course that KHMR is preparing specifically for this race.  The most unique feature of the race will be the awarding of the Western Cup trophy to the province with the fastest overall group of riders.  Categories will be as per Cycling BC DH age categories with Sport and Expert levels added to specific categories.

Also in store for the downhill sector of riders will be the Provincial Championships, again, hosted by the ADHRA and taking place in Blairmore, Alberta at the Pass Powderkeg Ski Resort on August 1-2.  As last year’s championships proved; a lot of fun was had by all, and the course was definitely an unexpected trail of surprises.  This year the only change is in the title of the race – which is now being called the “Rum Runner”.   The full schedule of DH races taking place in Alberta are listed below.

July 4-5 – Grand Prairie DH, Grand Prairie, AB

July 11-12 – ADHRA Western Cup at KHMR, Golden, AB – Hosted by ADHRA

July 18-19 – Park Cycle DH, Edmonton’s Rabbit Hill – Hosted by Park Cycle

Aug 1-2 – Blairmore, AB – Rum Runner – (Provincial Championships) – Hosted by ADHRA

Aug 29-30 – TBA

Please check the Alberta Downhill Racing Association for details and registration for the above races, as they become available –   All of us at the ADHRA are looking forward to a great season in 2009, and hoping everyone comes out and supports the downhill racing scene in Alberta!
