Iron lung XC 2009

Provided by Cyclemeisters

Sunday, June 7th will see the return of the Iron Lung XC to the Canmore Nordic Center. Team Cyclemeisters/ Bow Cycle was so pleased with the race in ’08 that we decided to do it all over again. The ’09 version will see a course that has been modified from last year to include more of the great Nordic Centre singletrack. The fine folks at the Nordic Center have let us use some of the new trails that were cut last year so it will be a new experience for everyone.

Returning to the race will be the completely rebuilt Devonian Drop as well as the rebuilt and now rideable Ass Whupper descent that we premiered in last years race. Singletrack has also been added to the top of the Georgetown Climb and instead of following the traditional Canada Cup route into the stadium racers will be treated to the new EKG trail that was cut last year. To the relief of everyone we have reduced the amount of climbing to keep the lap times in the respectable range. Don’t be fooled into thinking the course will be easier though as the singletrack we are debuting will more than make up for the climbing.

Also new this year will be a short course Team Relay Dash for Cash. Teams of 4 will race relay style on our short Youth course and compete for what will hopefully be a very large cash purse. The entire $40/ team entry fee will be put into the prize kitty so get after it … 20 teams will make for an $800 purse!

We will of course be bringing back our ‘ All you can stuff Spolumbo’s B.B.Q.’ put on by the parents of the Cyclemeisters team. 21 dozen sausages were crammed down last year and were counting on more this year so bring your appetite.

Check out our new website for all the details at or register [here].  Cheers and we look forward to seeing you out there!

Midweek Mayhem: 2009 Calgary Crit Series Race #2

Posted in Racing, Results, Road on May 27, 2009 by bikealberta

May 26th, Calgary AB – Race #2 of the Midweek Mayhem Crit Series took place tonight in Calgary under much improved conditions over last week. While the strong winds played a part in both the A & B races, the temperature was significantly warmer. The warmth brought out the racers this week, with 49 taking the start for the first race of the night. The 30 minute + 3 laps B race followed a different scenario than usual, with a break-away of two riders (Jeremy Roles – Speed Theory, Ian Aulds – Veloplzen CC) managing to keep away from a chase group of 6 from the early going of the race. The chase group was caught with only 2 laps to go, leading to a bunch sprint for the final 3 podium spots behind Roles in 1st and Auld in 2nd.

The A race was aggressive from the gun, with multiple breaks going up the road only to get reeled in. Craig DeBellefeuille (CMC/Bow Cycle) continued to show great form tonight picking up the first prime as well as second in the field sprint that ended the race. Jeff Bolstad (Top Gear – Calgary Cycle) was the man of the match, though, picking up first place for the night along with the second prime. Team H&R Block-Kona was also well represented with Chris McNeil and Peter Lawrence picking up third and fourth, while Adam Boyko (Top Gear – Calgary Cycle) rounded out the points in fifth.
