Road Racing Ain’t Done Yet

Provided by Carol Mayne

Hello Road Racers….

Just a reminder to all those riders who compete in Road events…’tis sad, but true, that the 2009 season is rapidly drawing to a close.  Hard to believe that we’ve been racing on Alberta roads (or in other exciting places, like Saskatchewan, or BC, or Oregon…) since April (or even earlier).  That said, however:  racing ain’t done yet!!  There’s still 32 days (as of today, Aug. 12th) to go and during this time, a variety of racing opportunities still await.   Don’t pare down your training and “competitive spirit” too much, at least for the next short while….

Be sure to check out – and sign up for…

Alberta Provincial Road Race Championships – hosted by bicisport.  Details are [here] sign on with Karelo before 4:00pm, Saturday, Aug. 15.

Speed Theory Three-Race Omnium Event – a road race, a crit and the Alberta Provincial Time Trial Championship – all contested on vehicle free highways!  This is an opportunity not to be missed.  Details are [here] sign on with Karelo, by noon, Friday, August 21.

Masters’ Provincial Road Race Championship – hosted by Calgary Crankmasters.  For those of you who hold a Masters’ designation on your license, come out and contest this race, held in the community of Crossfield.  Medals await…Details [here] sign on with Karelo before before 6:00pm, Saturday, Aug. 29.

The wrap-up event of the Season:  the 30th running of the Mt. Norquay Alberta Provincial Hill Climb Championship, Sunday, September 13, 2009.  Andy and I are still in the midst of creating and adding to the Mt. Norquay Hill Climb site.  If you want a preliminary view, or even if you’re curious about the Hill Climb records, to date, check it out at    Stay tuned for the tech guide and registration details (plus other nifty “hill climb” tidbits that we decide to add…).

Looking forward to seeing you at the races….
