Edmonton’s Tuesday Night ‘Cross Race is Cancelled for Tonight

Posted in 'Cross, Racing on September 28, 2010 by bikealberta

It’s a bummer, but here is the word from the boys at United Cycle:

After careful consultation and much deliberation, the United Cycle Tuesday Race Crew has decided to cancel the race tonight planned for Capilano Park.
We do not want to risk our situation with the city by destroying a whole lot of grassland. Capilano is especially under very strict scrutiny by the neighborhood residents.
So see you all next week at Goldbar Park, same time. Please start bringing lights if you are not already. Don’t need anyone getting smoked by a car, that would really suck.

Dark Knight & Oval ‘Cross Registration is Open

“The biggest weekend in Alberta Cyclocross will return for it’s third great year this October 2nd and 3rd. The Dark Knight and The Oval ‘Cross will be back … bigger, better, and well … new.

As some of you may have heard, the UofC has kindly asked that we not return to the grounds so we went and found an even better race course for you at C.O.P. The atmosphere and lunacy will be the same as always and the new course promises to be an even better thrill ride. In keeping with our other Cyclemeister race courses we’ve managed to include a downhill pump track … so get practicing your cross-ups on your ‘cross bikes because you’re getting some air baby. Race details have been posted and registration will open on on September 20th. Field limits will be in effect so register early. See you all on the 2nd. Cheers, The Cyclemeisters.”

2010 Bow 80 is Cancelled

Posted in MTB, Racing on September 16, 2010 by bikealberta

Provided by Bow Cycle

Bow80 Enthusiasts,
With great regret, we have decided to cancel the 2010 edition of the Bow80 Revenge of the Ninja Cows. While the trails are ridable, we believe the weather on Sunday will be a repeat of last years. We got lucky getting everyone safely off of the mountain but we do not wish to risk the participants or volunteers health. We will be refunding entry fees for all those who registered through Karelo, in-store registrants will be called and refunded.
We are going to move the date of the Bow80 up next year to hopefully avoid these problems.
If you have any questions you may contact myself (Bob Grunewald) or Darrell Elliott. Bow Cycle’s Phone number is 403 288 5422.
On behalf of the owners of Bow Cycle and the organizers , we thank you for your understanding,
 Thank you,
Bob Grunewald

Here are some juicy details of Stage #2:

Day 2 of the Furious3 course will take you on a tour of some of the best single track trails the valley has to offer. You will skirt town on Old Stumpy and work your way over to the west side of the valley. There you will get more than your fill of some epic trails. With over 4000 feet of climbing you will see some beautiful views on the journey. Of course with 4000 feet of climbing comes 4000 feet of descending as well. Lots of bermed corners and fun flowing and twisting trails that will make you forget about the climbs.

Alberta Youth and Paralympic Road and Track Championships

Posted in Racing, Results, Road on September 9, 2010 by bikealberta

Youth and Paralympic cyclists of Alberta met in Calgary over the Labour Day weekend for their final event of the year – the Alberta Youth/Paralympic Road and Track Championships. The focus of the event is completely on the Youth and Para crowd – no other categories offered. Racing started Saturday with an Omnium-style track meet at Calgary’s Glenmore Velodrome, and then moved to the hamlet of Madden, about 70 km north of Calgary, for a Time Trial Sunday and Road Road Monday.

The Paralympic categories featured over a dozen riders, competing on hand-cycles, trikes, and bikes. Para riders included National team member Jaye Milley, recently returned from two top-6 placings at the World Championships, in addition to a strong, competitive crew of hand-cyclists.

Riders to watch in future, and stars of the weekend, included the Juventus pair of Kinley Gibson and Samuel Beaudoin, who swept all three events in U17 Women and U17 Men, respectively, while Sam Radzke (CMC/Bow Cycle) did likewise in U15 men.

The event was hosted by the Calgary Bicycle Track League, and Calgary Cycle/Top Gear racing team.
