Alberta Youth and Paralympic Road and Track Championships

Posted in Racing, Results, Road on September 9, 2010 by bikealberta

Youth and Paralympic cyclists of Alberta met in Calgary over the Labour Day weekend for their final event of the year – the Alberta Youth/Paralympic Road and Track Championships. The focus of the event is completely on the Youth and Para crowd – no other categories offered. Racing started Saturday with an Omnium-style track meet at Calgary’s Glenmore Velodrome, and then moved to the hamlet of Madden, about 70 km north of Calgary, for a Time Trial Sunday and Road Road Monday.

The Paralympic categories featured over a dozen riders, competing on hand-cycles, trikes, and bikes. Para riders included National team member Jaye Milley, recently returned from two top-6 placings at the World Championships, in addition to a strong, competitive crew of hand-cyclists.

Riders to watch in future, and stars of the weekend, included the Juventus pair of Kinley Gibson and Samuel Beaudoin, who swept all three events in U17 Women and U17 Men, respectively, while Sam Radzke (CMC/Bow Cycle) did likewise in U15 men.

The event was hosted by the Calgary Bicycle Track League, and Calgary Cycle/Top Gear racing team.

2010 Road Nationals, Edmonton, Alberta from Sheldon Smart on Vimeo.

A week or so ago, I got a call from Mike Sarnecki asking if I wanted to help do a little reporting on Road Nationals for Pedal Magazine. I said, ‘sure, why not…’. I didn’t really ask what it would all entail, but nor was I concerned. Whatever it was, I was pretty sure it was going to be good fun. Thursday, the day before the Friday Time Trails, I showed up at the press conference at the Matrix Hotel. ‘See if you can get some on camera interviews’, Mike told me. Again, I said, ‘sure, why not…’, though I knew I might be walking in over my head. Armed with a point and shoot Fuji Film camera, a list of racer names I didn’t really know, and some suggested questions from Mike, off I went…

Watch The 2010 Paris Roubaix Live for Free!

Posted in Racing, Road on April 10, 2010 by bikealberta

UPDATE: Here is a working link.  Check it out [here]

So you wake up early tomorrow morning, make your favourite coffee, and want to get your fix of Spring Classic Cycling.  Well now you can watch the Queen of the Classics, the Hell of the North, Paris Roubaix streaming live on your computer, for free.

I’ve been successful this year in watching all the great Pro Tour races by streaming them for free on my computer and you can too!  All you need to do is to surf over to [here] early Sunday morning while the race is live and click on the link.  Not all of the links will work as some are restricted to a specific region, but you should be able to find a live stream feed that feeds your fix for Pro Cycling.

This post will be updated tomorrow morning with a link to a stream that is working…

Check it out and enjoy!
